A weak battery can leave your GMC key fob slow to respond or unable to lock and unlock your vehicle. The parts team at Joyce Buick GMC in Avon, OH, shows how simple the fix can be. Follow these steps to get your remote working again.
Remove the Key
Take the mechanical key out of your GMC key fob. You will use it as your opening tool, so keep it within reach.
Open the Remote
Wedge the tip of the key into the seam of the remote and pop the case open. A small flathead screwdriver also works if the fit feels tight. Go slowly, since too much pressure can damage the case.
Remove the Battery
Once the remote is open, the battery sits right in view. Note how it is seated, because in the fob shown in our video, the battery sits plus side down.
Use a screwdriver to pop it out, since it is a snug fit. Battery types vary by fob, although a CR2032 is commonly used.
Insert the Battery
Match the orientation of the old battery, then snap the new one into place with your fingers. Make sure it sits firmly against the contacts so the remote stays connected.
Close the Remote
Line up the two halves of the remote and press them together until they snap shut. Put the key back in, then test the lock and unlock buttons from a distance to confirm the battery works.
